About the Charities

All funds raised via The Big Sleep Out (after any minor expenses) will be split between the two organising charities - Winchester Churches Nightshelter and Trinity Winchester - working for the Homeless and based in the centre of Winchester. Both charities are very stretched, with high demand for their resources and services. Your sponsorship money will be invaluable in helping the homeless who access these services, as well as helping those who are still sleeping rough but who both charities try to reach out to and offer help and new hope to escape the homelessness cycle.

Thank you so much for all your help. Please see more details about each charity on our individual charity websites, or contact either charity and come and visit us. You might even decide you would like to join the teams of regular volunteers too.

Winchester Churches Nightshelter

We fill a vital place within the network of Winchester’s homelessness services: we are the only service to offer direct access accommodation and we are so often the first port of call for the homeless – people outside on the streets, outside society’s view, outside ‘the system’.

We offer an essential lifeline where basic needs of shelter, food, and health can be met, but we also offer other vital help in easing loneliness, providing a secure support network to address problems, and help in being included within society again and ‘feeling more human’.

With our team of professional support workers and experienced staff, our primary focus is on helping guests move into sustainable, long-term accommodation and escape the homelessness cycle for good.

‘The Nightshelter has built up my confidence, given me time to think, reminded me of the support available, and put me in touch with those who could assist me in job hunting’.

Trinity
Winchester

Trinity Winchester provides services for those experiencing the effects of homelessness, vulnerable housing, problems with substance misuse, mental health issues, poverty, unemployment and social isolation.

Although Trinity has a presence in Basingstoke, the majority of our clients are from Winchester and the surrounding areas. We are proud to be a organisation devoted to helping those in need in our community, and thankful for the backing of our many statutary and other supporters without whose ongoing help none of what we do would be possible.

In 2009 we will be moving to our brand new Durngate Centre near the Police Station in Winchester.
